Making steady progress towards the DSSA Buurian Anchorage I found myself in system DUMBAE NR-V D2-7718. A binary star system; a blue-white class A and a K class yellow-orange star, the latter supporting an assortment of bodies tail ended with several gas giants complete with their own collection of orbiting rocks.
Body B 7 F one of the three atmospheric planets in the system would make a suitable candidate to stretch my legs, what I found left me rather puzzled although there was more than likely a natural explanation behind it.

Drifting through the blue carbon dioxide atmosphere, domed mountains came into view protruding up from sandy earth. The body only possessed two biological life signs; bacterium and tussock grasses so this diversion would be primarily about getting some exercise.
I set the Hiraeth down in the shadow of a mountain that the bio scanners had indicated would lead me nicely into an area quite abundant in tussock grasses.
The sky was a nice shade of royal blue, peppered with white specs of light and the galactic core hanging low in the sky. The K class star shone bright, back lighting the planets parent gas giant. All I wanted was a nice body of water, a canvas chair and a fishing rod and this would have been a prime spot to build a rest and relaxation resort.
Having deployed the SRV I made my way round the base of the mountain onto a plateau which was bordered with a wall of rock. Exiting the SRV I soon discovered the plateau was, as scans suggested teaming with the grasses. As I started the genetic sampling of the tussocks, three balls of floating dust rising from beyond the rock wall caught my eye. These were soon followed by a fourth.
I headed back to the SRV to deploy the camera drone to see if I could get a better look at what could be causing the unusual dust balls.
Code 10001, Code 30096, Code 180016, Code 180030, Code 180031, Code 40021 blipped violently on my wrist computer I used to control the drone, the drone itself just hovered drunkenly before me. The dust from my last outing must have clogged something inside it. I will have to look up the error codes later, hopefully the issue will be evident when I open the thing up. I doubted very much there would be a geek squad this far out. I packaged the drone away and scrambled up the rock wall to take a better look.

Not sure what shocked me first; The sudden drop on the other side of the wall or the pitted surface tailing off into the distance. It looked as if there had been a sudden and intense areal bombardment. They were small in circumference but looked deep from my vantage point. I could picture some sort of battle having taken place in the valley before me. My guess was that when a breeze circled one of the craters it whipped up the dust into a cloud ball and then air currents carried them up and over the side of the rock wall.

Eager to check out the tortured terrain I darted back to the SRV and made hast to get down to the blitzed landscape. Wandering around and inspecting the craters, I did not think it was outside the realms of possibility that these were the scars of some ancient battlefield. It was easy to imagine these pits were the result of strafing actions made by some long-forgotten alien aircraft. Tall tussocks grew sparsely around the area now silhouetted by the sun and brought to life by my now very active imagination, they were like ghosts inhabiting the field of battle once again.
