If you have ever been a passenger on or bore witness to a capital class ship entering or leaving hyper space, you will know how impressive an experience it is and that all commanders should undergo the ritual at least once in their careers.

Plimbeau ZE-R e4-2732 was not hard to miss, the system is a planetary nebula and is visible from many many light years away. Dropping into the system I was greeted by a black hole, several dwarf stars and an assortment of planetary bodies. The Luna was still in orbit around an icy satellite, the one with a unique view of the system’s ringed planets. Sadly I wasn’t going to have time to get down to the surface and sample the specticle.

A carrier prepping for jump is an auditory buffet, first there is the “Honk” indicating the start of the jump procedure, followed by a tannoy announcement declaring the pre flight lockdown and service suspendment. The clatter of landing pads retreating into the vessel’s hull, unfathomable hydraulic actions and the rolling of shutters over the landing zones.

I dispensed with the cruise assist, locked on to Plimbeau ZE-R e4-2732 2 F A, set all pips to engines and eased the throttle to max. I was not going to have the luxury of enjoying this system at my leisure, to soak up its beauty. It is described as a blue planetary nebula but there are undeniably hints of pink and purple in here.

Next comes another barrage of sound, this time slams and thuds of more bulkheads and shutters as the carrier is made secure for departure, culminating in the rhythmic announcement notification and commanding message to all ships in the area, stay clear, hyperspace jump is imminent.

The roar of the frame shift drive powering up is enough to make you stand in wonder at how man, simple insignificant man, has managed to make this giant leap into the stars. Next comes the resonating warble as the drive now spools into life, you can literally hear the compression of power that is going to be released to rip open a hole in space and throw this colossus through.

I exited super cruise with all the grace of a flack cannon. There she was, the Luna Hyperlight commanding the scene in her purple livery, my ticket home. Opening the communications panel, I sent the request to dock.

Opening a rift into hyperspace is violent and tremendously powerful sight to observe, accompanied by a stimulation of sound. As the tear opens, a black cloud forms, filled with lightning, emanating wave after wave of thunder claps. This is accompanied by the hair raising count down, “Five, Four, Three …” and at the top, another “Honk” on the ship’s horn.

Permission denied.

It was at this point the Luna made its egress via the void. I thought a normal carrier jump was impressive, let alone a carrier jump performed from the middle of a nebula. Now THAT is a sight to be seen.

I guess all that was left for me to do now was to head down too 2 F A and take the SRV dancing while I decided on my next course of action.
